Catalunya’s race of truth
It wouldn’t be the 100th edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya without the inclusion of a time trial to keep the WorldTour peloton on its toes. The second stage featured an 18.5km test in Banyoles, Spain, a mere 24km north of the team’s Girona service course. The venue served as a perfect test for the riders to put their aero setups through the paces as they prepare to attack the remaining road stages.
- LEM’s MotivAero helmet and its short tail tested off the charts in the wind tunnel.
- Mechanics taking a closer look at the hidden brake caliper on Felt’s DA TT rig.
- Nickolas Zukowsky, KOM from the 2020 Paris-Camembert, in the zone.
- Vision supplies the team’s aero bars and wheels.
- All in line and no place to go. Riders bide their time until liftoff.
- The team’s trainer of choice – the Wahoo KICKR.
- Ben King started early so he had time to share what he had learned on course.
- Pactimo’s TT Suit is the preferred garment for getting low and aero.
- Gavin Mannion out on course. Mannion would average over 45 km/hr for the 24min effort.
- Sprinter Colin Joyce opted for a clear lens.
- Two-time US TT champ Joey Rosskopf finished three seconds behind teammate Mannion.
