It was a great weekend at Collegiate Nationals for Erica Allar who combines racing with Rally Cycling and pursuing her Master's Degree in early childhood education at Piedmont College in Demorest, GA. Allar claimed two victories for Piedmont College, winning both the road race and criterium in the Varsity category. Erica has had a strong start to the 2017 season with a win in the Caromont criterium, second in the Sunny King Criterium and third at Rock Hill in South Carolina.
“Having spent the better part of the last five years specifically focusing on racing, it was a challenge at first to figure out the balance of academics and time on the bike,” said Allar. “Being back in school has really helped me focus my attention to training and has made my time on the bike much more productive. I've also had to re-learn how to manage my time and prioritize my to-do list better. Piedmont's Varsity Cycling team is the youngest college team in the U.S. I wanted to be an integral part of getting the program up and running and to do that by winning two national titles has been really great. We do not yet have the legacy and reputation that some of these long lasting programs have, but we're certainly making our mark. I want to thank Rally Cycling for being supportive of my collegiate racing. They worked with me to create a schedule that works well for both racing and school. I'm grateful for their support."
