Evan Huffman Smashes Skyliners Time Trial

Rally Cycling Men Close in on Cascade Classic General Classification, Poidevin Holds Second Overall

Evan Huffman powered over the rolling hills east of Bend, Oregon, to take victory in the stage two Skyliners Time Trial at the Cascade Cycling Classic. Huffman covered the 23-kilometer course in of 28:41.20, .5 seconds faster than runner-up Gavin Mannion (UnitedHealthcare) and 5 seconds faster than third-place Robin Carpenter (Holowesko-Citadel). Huffman’s impressive performance moved him into third on general classification. Sara Poidevin kept the women's squad in contention for overall victory by finishing fourth and maintaining second place overall.

“I felt excellent,” said Huffman. “I struggled a lot the last few minutes up to the turnaround, but overall it was a good day. My power numbers were similar to last year when I finished second to Zirbel. I knew I was on a good ride, but I'm not surprised the time gaps were so small. There are a lot of strong guys here. I'm very close on the general classification so we'll see if there's a moment of weakness from UHC or Holowesko that we can take advantage of to gain time. We will also look to win another couple of stages, especially the stage four criterium. We have some our of best sprinters here.”

In the general classification, Huffman now sits third overall, 3 seconds behind Mannion. With three stages remaining, the team will look to collect more stage wins and move Huffman into the overall lead. Tomorrow, Rally Cycling will look to gain time during the 178.8-kilometer Cascade Lakes Road Race, a rolling course with a 12.3-kilometer ascent to the line. In the stage four criterium, the team will rely upon Brad Huff and Pierrick Naud to add to the team’s win count. On Sunday, Jesse Anthony, Shane Kline, Emerson Oronte and Curtis White will be called on to make the race hard and hopefully deliver Huffman to the overall victory.

Sara Poidevin powers to fourth and holds on to second overall

In the women’s race, Sara Poidevin put in a stellar ride to finish fourth and maintain her second place overall. Stage one winner Kirsti Lay crossed the line in 11th and is now sixth overall. Despite losing the leader’s yellow jersey, Lay maintained her lead in the Queen of the Mountains competition, while Poidevin holds the white jersey of best young rider. Points leader Sara Bergen finished a strong tenth to move up to ninth in the general classification.
