The definition of momentum is the strength or force that allows something to continue or to grow stronger or faster as time passes.
What’s happening in Australia right now is exactly that – momentum. A group of athletes and staff that have grown in strength and achieved incredible success in only a few shorts weeks.
On Saturday night, Leigh Ann Ganzar won the final leg of the Australian crit series, breaking away from the pack with two laps remaining and barely holding on for victory in the famed Night Riders Criterium. Teammate Chloe Hosking, the current Aussie crit champ, won the sprint for second ahead of Canyon-SRAM’s Alexis Ryan.
“Winning is always special,” said Ganzar. “Victories can be few and far between so have to enjoy them. After the race I watched the replay of Chloe posting up for second and it was awesome. It showed she was just as excited for a teammate to win as herself.”
“We have some amazing momentum to start off this season, so it feels fantastic to keep that rolling as we head to the first WorldTour race next weekend,” added Ganzar.
The Australian adventure continues at the Towards Zero Race Torquay on January 30th, a 100 km circuit race south of Melbourne. Two days later, the team will lineup at the first Women’s WorldTour event of the season, the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race.
